Twist House: A Unique and Sustainable Private Residence

Evolutionary Design Inspired by Nature

The Twist House, designed by Tzokas Architects, is a private residence that beautifully combines sustainability, innovation, and breathtaking views. Inspired by the evolution of human dwellings and the desire to minimize its impact on the environment, this house stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of architecture and nature.

The main concept behind the Twist House is the evolution of human dwellings throughout history. Starting from the cave, progressing to one-level stone buildings, and culminating in a light flying volume above the ground, this design showcases the stages through which humans have interacted with nature. The architects' main concern was to recycle the ground materials, such as stone, and respect the existing trees, minimizing the impact on the surrounding environment while maximizing the panoramic view of the Methoni castle.

What sets the Twist House apart is its unique approach to construction. The building rises through the land, with the obtained stones becoming the ground floor volumes and a lighter second volume standing on top of them. The three-level house allows inhabitants to observe, acquaint themselves with, and ultimately inhabit the surrounding nature. From the upper level, one can marvel at the breathtaking view, while the ground level provides a closer connection to the environment. Finally, the underground level offers a unique living space that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings.

The realization of the Twist House involved innovative construction techniques. The ground is shaped into a basement, the stones give form to the ground floor, and delicate plaster shapes the second level. The continuity between the interior and exterior spaces is reinforced by floor-to-ceiling openings and floor tiles that extend towards the outer space, blurring the boundaries between the inside and outside.

The Twist House boasts impressive technical specifications, with a total area of 485m², including a 222m² basement, a 160m² ground floor, and a 103m² first level. The maximum height of the house reaches 7.70m, and a 60m² swimming pool adds to the luxurious features of the residence.

Designed by Tzokas Architects, the Twist House is a true masterpiece of contemporary architecture. Situated in an olive grove in the Southwest Peloponnese, this private residence offers a direct view of the Methoni castle, creating a unique and serene living environment.

The Twist House has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2021. This award recognizes the outstanding and creative design that authentically combines experience and resourcefulness. The Twist House showcases strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
